European birch (Betula pendula)

These photos were taken May 7 and May 10, 2008 at Fletcher's - arboretum. European birch bark hardly peels, and the tree has black triangles below its branches. The leaves are more triangular and dainty than those of white or yellow birch. Similar species Regarding the bark: white birch, trembling aspen. Trembling aspen bark is greenish-white, does not peel at all, and looks like the tree has been bandaged. List of trees and shrubs with alternate, simple, toothed leaves
